What is Wireless Technology?

Wireless technology refers to technology that allows us to communicate without using cables or wires. Wireless technology also refers to solutions that do not physically connect a device as in the case of Induction/Magnetic charging and heating.

BLE/WIFI

Similar to Bluetooth, BLE operates in the 2.4 GHz band. The hidden difference is that Bluetooth Low Energy remains in sleep mode unless a connection initiates. The actual connection times only last a few milliseconds, unlike Bluetooth, which connects for a few seconds or a few hours at a time. The proximity data provided by BLE is much more accurate than WiFi. The maximum range for BLE wireless connections is 30 meters, while WiFi goes further beyond. It depends on the version, but you can get well over 100 feet if you can extend the connectivity through external antennas.

Cellular/Mobile Data

LTE technology refers to technology that allows us to communicate without using cables or wires. Wireless technology also refers to solutions that do not physically connect a device as in the case of Induction/Magnetic charging and heating.
NB-IoT stands for Narrow Band Internet of Things. It is a low power wide area network specifically aimed at enabling a range of low complexity and low delay sensitivity IoT devices. Specifically, IoT projects that only need to send small amounts of data with long intervals in between. . The use cases for NB-IoT are typically stationary devices where short delays are fine. It can even work with geographically dispersed devices, so works perfectly with projects such as animal tracking, warehouse monitoring, asset tracking and smart metering.

Induction/Magnetic Charging

How does an induction charger work? When an electric current is sent through a coil (a wound-up cable), it creates a magnetic field whose action generates another electric current in a second coil that's some distance away. This way electricity can be transferred from one device to another without physical contact.

Induction/Magnetic Heating

How does it Induction Heating work? While other most heating elements and boilers apply heat directly from an electrical plate, whilst Induction heating is achieved when this current passes through metal coils, typically made of copper. The magnetic field produces an electrical current inside the magnetic material pan which heats water.

LORA

LoRa (short for long range radio) is a spread spectrum modulation technique derived from chirp spread spectrum (CSS) technology. It is a proprietary system made by chip manufacturer Semtech. Compared to WiFi, Wi-Fi sends large amounts of data at a high speed over a short range, whereas LoRaWAN transfers small bits of data a few times hourly or daily, over multiple kilometers. Wireless Ranger develops solutions to use LORA transmitters to send small packets of data over long distances.

Major LORA Benefits
  • It consumes less power and hence battery will last for longer duration.
  • It has very wide coverage range about 5 km in urban areas and 15 km in suburban areas.
  • Single LoRa Gateway device is designed to take care of 1000s of end devices or nodes.
  • It uses Adaptive Data Rate technique to vary output data rate/Rf output of end devices. This helps in maximizing battery life as well as overall capacity of the LoRaWAN network. The data rate can be varied from 0.3 kbps to 27 Kbps for 125 KHz bandwidth.
  • It is widely used for M2M/IoT applications.
